Weed of the Month: Corn Speedwell
Corn speedwell is a winter annual weed that is classified by herbicide manufacturers as hard to control.
It is not usually found in thick, healthy lawns but can be a problem in thin, weak grass stands and newly seeded areas; where it is capable of forming dense mats.
Like many other Veronicas, this is a cute little plant with tiny, bright blue flowers; however, it is very is invasive and found on noxious weed lists.

Weather and Rules Blamed for Ineffective Organic Pesticide Control
Asland Ore. - Weather and safety rules are the blame for ineffective organic weed control in Asland parks during the 2011 season.
Organic pesticides need to be applied in warm and dry weather. A cool, wet spring and safety rules that require posting notices 48 hours before applying contributed to poor control. The rule caused park maintenance workers to miss windows of oportunity when the weather cooperated.
Workers also were hampered by parks rules that they post notices about planned spraying of organic pesticides 48 hours beforehand. Cool, damp weather would return, and the workers were not able to spray. Then they would have to post notices again and hope for warm, dry weather in two days.
"It became an exercise in futility," Parks and Recreation Director Don Robertson said.
Eventually many parks workers stopped trying to use the organic pesticides, said parks Horticulturist Anne Thayer

Turfgrass Management App for Android Users
This looks like a handy application for turfgass managers who are Android users. I don't own an Android so I can't give a review.
Anyway, this offline application was developed by the University of Georgia. Use it for the following calculations: calibration, fertilizer and pesticide rates, topdressing, mowing times and cost, and many more.
