Fall 2013 - Today is the first day of autumn, the weather forecast for most of us in the near future includes sunny, blue skies and mild autumn temperatures. Although there are plenty of beautiful fall days remaining, it is time to start preparing for the winter storm season and snow removal. For what it's worth, the weather forecasters at NOAA, WeatherAdvance.com, and the Farmer's Almanac are predicting average to above average snowfall for those of us living in snow zones.
To help you prepare for snow removal this winter, here is a compilation of best selling snow throwers on Amazon.
Electric snow throwers from Snow Joe, GreenWorks and Toro top the Best Seller list. These models are affordable, easy to maintain, to maneuver while working and won't take up a lot of garage storage space. They will handle big driveways...as long as your power cord. Clearing heavy snow is a concern with the lightweight units and several users complain about chute plugging and a decreased throw distance. However, even the massive snow eaters aren't bullet proof when it comes to heavy, wet snow. I have experienced plenty of chute clogs and broken shear pins moving heavy snow with big, powerful blowers.
Gas powered units from Power Smart, Poulan Pro and Snapper round out the Fall 2013 Best Seller list.
Tip: The biggest mistake people make with gas powered equipment is storing them with gas in the fuel tank and engine. The tank should be drained or treated with a fuel stabilizer before storing the unit in the off-season. Leaving untreated gas in the engine will gum up the fuel system.
