when to apply weed control on new lawn
by: Pilgrims Pride

I dont see what part of the country you are in but realize that tall fescue mixes like warmer weather to germinate.
Look at the label. It should tell you the ideal conditions for germination.

After that, I would certainly wait until the new grass has been cut at least 3 times.
Because, young grass plants are not strong enogh until then to withstand the herbicie application.

It is true that there are some herbicides that can be used such as "Drive" but it is still best to wait.

Its still early in the season, You have plenty of time to control weeds.

Remember also that a good strong stand of turf will make it very difficult for weeds to thrive.

Mow tall as well.
Remember, crabgrass needs heat & light to germinate. So mowing tall prevents those conditions from developing.

Last while I'm on the mowing thing, Never remove more than a third of the plant and mow with a sharp blade. It is much better for your lawn.

Good Luck
